Went to The Basement last night to see Alabama 3 do a live set. Awesome fun band - they only had a guitar, harmonica and a guy and a girl on vocals. A very bluesy-country-almostrockabilly sound delivered superbly. Larry Love (the vocalist with the very recognisable voice for anyone who's seen the opening credits of the Sopranos) has fabulous stage presence and really knows how to work an audience. Devlin Love, the female singer, opened the encore with an unaccompanied version of Billie Holiday's Strange Fruit. Man, she's got a voice on her.
The Basement's an odd venue. They're a restaurant as well as a bar and a venue. Now that the licensing has changed, maybe they can piss off the restaurant bit and let the audience have a bit more room to move.
All in all, a fun fun night. Definately one of the better live bands I've seen. Not sure if they've already hit Melbourne - worth checking them out if they haven't.
