mmm peppery

Went out last night after a lovely dinner to the Gin Palace 10th birthday party. vastneonwolf works at the sister bar, Madame Brussels. It was a private party - they had the inside and also the carpark next door turned into a location. It was a very fun party. Until about 10pm, when a couple of Victoria Police's finest turned up. They demanded to check the licenses, and decided they were unhappy with it.
So they stood in the doorway between the outdoor and inside, and blocked people from going through. So instead everyone just walked around the laneway and in and out the front door. Kinda stupid and pointless.

The next thing we noticed was a bunch of people over near where the police were coughing. A lot. One of the old bar managers said or did something to the police, so they decided to pepper spray her. And then her boyfriend ended up bleeding from the head and handcuffed. I'm sure he just tripped. The bar rapidly became uninhabitable as the pepper spray blew in from the doorway through the place- everyone ended outside milling around on the street. Getting more and more pissed off. More and more cops started turning up, and the vibe was very very ugly. I ended up walking with Stef up to MB and kept him company until he settled down - the couple who were pepper sprayed and arrested were friends he cares about, so he was pretty upset.

All in all, a pretty odd way to spend a night out. Well done Victoria Police.
