As Kate will no doubt attest, I am one of the world's worst invalids. I hate being sick. However, on the scale of things I hate being sick with, the current one is a doozy. What started out as a fairly aggressive cold (chills, aches, sneezes) went away quite suddenly. I was happy, and impressed with my own immune system ("ha! you puny viruses are no match for my magnificent army of white blood cells! attack, my army! attack!")

It was only when I lay down to go to sleep that I realised the cunning little bastards had not been defeated after all, but had instead moved to my inner ear. Lying down == nausea == no sleep == need to lie down == ... It's safe to say that I'm something of a shivering wreck right now, with an overwhelming need to sleep, yet stay upright. It's like flying economy, which is to say, NOT FUN AT ALL. On the plus side, the food sucks less than economy, and there's much less chance of being forced to watch "Shark's Tale".

When it's time for my immune system's annual performance review, you can damn well bet that this will be noted down. Hmph.

Riiiight:

Two former Cornell University entomologists, Quentin Wheeler and Kelly Miller, were in charge of naming 65 new species of slime-mold beetles, which they discovered while studying the insects' evolution and classification.

Wheeler, who is now head of entomology at the Natural History Museum in London, said that the choice to name beetles after President George W. Bush, Vice President Dick Cheney, and Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld was out of admiration for their principles, not because they look like the beetles.

Sure - I mean if I had someone I admired, I'd name a new species after them. Particularly if they were slime-mold beetles.

Personally, I think it's cruel to the beetles. I mean, can you imagine how much crap the little beetle kids are going to get when they go to beetle school? It'd be like being a human kid named after Gwyneth Paltrow, or Ben Affleck, or something.

[livejournal.com profile] vainglorious pointed out that there's a new Tori concert on sale tomorrow morning. I'm going to get a ticket, and I'm happy to get tickets for anyone else I know who wants one, and lets me know by 8.50am Friday. Note that the tickets are $110 each, though... ouch.

Either post a comment, email or sms me.
