Yay. The ignition barrel (the bit you put the key in) in my car has collapsed, and needs to be replaced before I can start it again. Of course, it's a Saturday of a long weekend. So Tuesday morning, I need to find a mechanic who's open and can do the work, get to Sarah's where the car is parked, ring the RACV to get a towtruck to take it to the mechanic... all good fun.

Oh that's rough man! Sorry to hear about your car. Hope it all works out next week - at least Melbourne has fantastic public transport!

that was the way the RACV guy described it. I assume it's just worn and something's come loose, or it's moved out of a groove, or something. I can get the key in fine, but it won't turn at all. It was sudden - the previous time I started the car, it was a bit stiff (for the first time, normally it's easy to turn). Dropped Miss S. back at home, tried to start it, no go.

Going to try to put some lubricant in it, but I suspect it's just stuffed.

The car is 20 years old, so I guess stuff like this isn't too surprising. Just very, very annoying.
