Sony's Playstation 3 is going to cost money. A lot of money. Sony's response?

[Sony's goal is] "for consumers to think to themselves 'I will work more hours to buy one'. We want people to feel that they want it, irrespective of anything else."

Boggle. Why am I reminded of the French restaurant L'Idiot in the film L.A. Story (with Patrick Stewart enacting the New Cruelty Regime)? "You can't have the PS3. Not with two controllers, not with your financials!"

And yet gamers will spend this and more on a PC that - while it *could* be used for other things - invariably isn't. I'm not saying it's the right tactic for them, and it certainly smacks of arrogance, but I think the outcome is far from a foregone conclusion.

You're right. I've yet to see a console port of nethack.
