Well, that was a fun way to kill a few hours. Starting with the raucous and sloppy bar sing-a-long of the national anthem, and then to the cries of outrage at that Japanese goal (no really - where was that referee's fucking guide dog?)

Then the match got serious. The Local was pretty fucking full, and amazingly quiet as people were really getting heavily into the game. I spent much of the first half explaining various rules to people who kept asking questions like "what the hell is 'offside', anyway?"

Then that amazing last eight minutes happened. And the crowd went wild. Really, really wild. The owner of the bar was dancing up on a table pulling his shirt over his head. There was insane amounts of massed bouncing and dancing around the room. My throat hurts from the yelling and hooting, and I think I hurt my knee jumping up and down on top of a bar stool. I blame the beer.

And I get home to the first episode of a brand new series of Celebrity DeathMatch! What a rockin way to finish the long weekend.

"We at CDM don't condone or advise the blowing up of any family member" "Except pets of course" "Right. Except pets"

I'll be at Federation Square again for the next 2 Australian games, if you'd like to join me.

Not sure - I will let you know. The Local has a few advantages over Fed Square:

warmer

beer on tap

short walk home

But there's something to be said for seeing the matches in a huge huge crowd.
