So Sydney Water is doing work on the water main in my street (I'm home today, only flew in this morning). Apparently this involved "an hour" of no water. I get back from going to the shops, the crew has packed up and gone home, and left the water off. Much arguing with Sydney Water on the phone

SW: "have you tried turning your water main back on"
me: "this house has no separate water main"
SW: "yes it does"
me: "no it doesn't."
SW: "well I can't send a crew out until you've checked the water main is on" [ed note: the non-existent water main you mean?]
me: "I'm standing here with the person from the next door house. he's lived in it for 15 years, and he is pretty damn sure none of these have separate water mains"
SW: "well the records say you have one"
me: "it's on the same shared meter as about 10 other houses, and none of them have water right now either!"
SW: "have you tried turning that shared one back on"
me: "er, no-one has any idea where it might be. your guys turned it off, why not get them to turn it back on"

end result - a "non-emergency callout", they'll try to get someone out in a few hours. perhaps.

for fucks.
