the oz outdoes their previous low
Nov. 13th, 2007 10:13 pmYou might have thought that the Government Gazette (or the Australian, as it prefers to be known) has trawled about as low as it can go in it's desperate attempts to get the liberals re-elected. For the last year, we've been told time and time again how this time, JohnHowardTheMasterPolitician is on the way back. They've spruiked every piece of negative news for the ALP and Rudd that they can get their hands on. It's been increasingly sad to watch.
But last night, Monica Attard in her last outing on Media Watch showed the new low they've reached. One of the GG's columnists sent an independent running in Wentworth an email:

Overington is attempting to laugh it off as "a divine thing", and that she "couldn't be more thrilled". Which just goes to show that she's a retard. Ecuyer is pissed off and planning on reporting this to the AEC. I'm pretty sure that telling a candidate that if they direct preferences in a certain way, they'll get front page coverage is right out the other side of "inappropriate behaviour", but it's hard to judge whether it's illegal or not. Given the AEC's notorious lack of a sense of humour in these sorts of matters, Overington might want to figure out a better line than "it's the most hilarious thing that has happened to me this week".
The GG's columnist Janet Albrechtson (who Howard appointed to the fucking ABC board as a "fuck you" to the section of the country with a brain) accused Media Watch of "bias" for daring to suggest that it was inappropriate for a journalist to suggest to a candidate where they direct their preferences. Of course she did.
One of the things I'm most looking forward to after this election is lost by the Coalition is seeing non-entities like Albrechtson and Windshuttle driven back into the howling wilderness of deserved indifference.
