Dolly weighs in:
"It's entirely appropriate the Australian government expresses its view in a free world. You won't get anywhere trying to close down debate."

Jesus. This man is our Foreign Minister? And he doesn't recognise that it's not appropriate to meddle in another country's politics? I mean, it's not like the Bushies would try and interfere in Australian politics, is it? Sigh.

Obama's camp hits back, with appropriate language:
"If Prime Minister Howard truly believes what he says, perhaps his country should find its way to contribute more than just 1,400 troops so some American troops can come home," [Obama spokesman Robert Gibbs] said. "It's easy to talk tough when it's not your country or your troops making the sacrifices."

I wonder what sad and desperate things Howard will attempt next. The Age today has a new poll, showing 58-42 to the ALP. The small man's gotta be panicking. Expect to see all sorts of attempts to buy popularity, like the recent policy on the run on the Murray-Darling, and the weekend's handout for elderly care places.

"I think the most interesting thing about (Senator Obama's comments) is that it didn't really address the substance of the issue," Mr Howard told ABC Radio.

Howard: ZOMG U AND OSAMA == BFF.
Obama: Ssh, John, grown-ups trying to get things done.
Howard: U DIDN"T ADRESS MY ISSUEZ! I PWN3D U TOTALY!
Obama: ....

More seriously - Barack has brought up legislation to wind back and then end the US occupation of Iraq. He's been talking to a lot of people about the issues, and making all sorts of interesting and nuanced observations. Howard, meanwhile, is in lockstep denial of the epic catastrophuck he has helped bring about, instead trotting out Bolt-esque "Obama <3 Al Qaeda" points.

On a related note: Someone needs to ask Howard whether we'll be helping out if and when the bugfuck crazypeople in Washington start shooting at Iran. Get the little shit on the record.

Miss S. pointed this out:

SEMINAL American rock act the Pixies have finally announced a Melbourne concert.
The Pixies, former Pulp singer Jarvis Cocker and New York rockers The Rapture will perform at the Best of the V Festival on April 4 at the Sidney Myer Music Bowl.

British legends the Pet Shop Boys, British dance act Groove Armada, Crazy hitmakers Gnarls Barkley and French band Phoenix will perform at the Bowl on April 3. Tickets for both nights go on sale February 19 through Ticketmaster.

The Pixies, who had hits in the 1980s and '90s including Here Comes Your Man, Monkey Gone to Heaven, Gigantic and Debaser, have never toured Australia. Their albums Surfer Rosa and Doolittle are considered alternative rock classics.
