Six-term Rep. Mark Foley (R-Fla.) resigned yesterday amid reports that he had sent sexually explicit Internet messages to at least one underage male former page.

...

Foley chaired the House caucus on missing and exploited children and was credited with writing the sexual-predator provisions of the Adam Walsh Child Protection and Safety Act of 2006, which Bush signed in July. A photo on the White House Web site shows Foley among those attending the signing ceremony.

... Jesus.

And it gets worse for the Republicans. Looks like they knew about it at least a year ago, and didn't do anything until the media got hold of it.

So - torture? A-OK. Sending smutty IM and email messages to 16 year olds? Also, A-OK. Finding out about it and covering it up? Absolutely fine.

Some nice family values you got there, republicans.

Josh Marshall is all over the shifting stories from the senior Republicans.

Y'know, when people talked about an "October Surprise", I thought they meant a bombing run on Iran.
