So how many planets are there, then? Tradition says 9. A more rational approach would say either 8, or else 12 (and a couple of dozen new ones over the next couple of years, if "shitty ball of ice" is allowed to count as a planet). Scott "Plutohayta" Westerfeld has been on a rampage lately, including this summary piece. I love his orbital map of all the other shitty iceballs out there (based on the "No Iceball Left Behind" school of thought)



Charlie Stross, on the other hand, argues for only counting 4 planets, along with a bunch of other failed planets.

Once again it's time for a show. We're doing another Williamson, Brilliant Lies. I was expecting, going in, to find it had dated pretty poorly - but it turns out that the recent IR laws enforced on us all by Glorious Leader give some of it a bit of a zesty tang.
