so how many planets are there, then?
Aug. 21st, 2006 02:42 pmSo how many planets are there, then? Tradition says 9. A more rational approach would say either 8, or else 12 (and a couple of dozen new ones over the next couple of years, if "shitty ball of ice" is allowed to count as a planet). Scott "Plutohayta" Westerfeld has been on a rampage lately, including this summary piece. I love his orbital map of all the other shitty iceballs out there (based on the "No Iceball Left Behind" school of thought)

Charlie Stross, on the other hand, argues for only counting 4 planets, along with a bunch of other failed planets.
