Aug. 14th, 2006 05:00 pmLiberal backbencher Don Randall says senators should pass tough new migration laws to make Australia safe from terrorism.
The West Australian MP said the latest terror threat in Britain and the US should serve as a warning to rebel Coalition MPs thinking of crossing the floor on the government's controversial migration amendments.
"The majority of Australians want tough border security. When you see what happened in the UK over the last week, it sends a very strong message to those pandering to the minorities in the Australian electorate," Mr Randall told reporters.
"People get all excited about these draconian measures and laws that we are doing ... they are in the national interest and national security interest."
