Well, we get to watch lardo move from irrelevant to useless today:

Internet service providers (ISPs) will be forced to block violent and pornographic material before it reaches home computers if Labor wins the next federal election.

Under the policy, announced by Opposition Leader Kim Beazley, international websites would be banned by the Australian Communications and Media Authority if they contained graphic sexual or violent material, rated R or higher.

The bans would be maintained by ISPs.

The policy aims to protect the two-thirds of Australian households where no internet filters are in place because of a lack of technical knowledge or cost.

Mr Beazley said all households would be included in the policy unless there was a specific request for access to such material.

It was "too hard" for many parents to install internet blockers on their computers to prevent offensive material being downloaded, he said.

"The point at which you can do that (effectively ban such material) is with the ISP," Mr Beazley told Southern Cross Radio.

"The ISP provider can cut it off.

"They (websites) can be controlled by Australian law and they (ISPs) can control them at the point at which they enter the country."

Similar systems operated in Sweden and Britain, he said.

In the past, Mr Beazley has called on the federal government to provide free internet blockers to all Australian households.

Beazley - you are a stupid ignorant fuck. You have no idea how the internet works, you have no idea on the damage that you would do here. The ISPs cannot shut off "the porn". It doesn't work like that, you tool. The only way to do it would be to join countries such as China, Iran, and Dubai, and block access to more or less most of the net. Including google.com. Or do you plan to force google to produce a filtered version on google.com.au that protects us all from material you don't want to see?

And it's "too hard" for parents to install a filter? Please. Click on the installer, it runs, it's installed.

If the ALP does indeed go down this path, I will not be encouraging anyone to vote for them in the next election. I'm serious here - this is a dangerous and idiotic step to be taking. The way this will work is that this will be outsourced to one of the large US firms who offer this service, such as SmartFilter. Almost all of these companies provide heavily idealogically filtered viewpoints (often with a strong religious bias involved). Want information on birth control? Sexual health? Sorry, no can do.

Will somebody in the ALP please get rid of this incompetent fuckstick? Pretty, pretty please? I mean, fuck, he's making Latham look good. Or even Crean!

I consider myself something of an ALP supporter - I have voted for
them in every election I can recall. If you do go to the polls with
this absolutely idiotic plan, I will not only not support you, but
will be outspoken in encouraging other people to not support you or
your party.

I suggest you either hire or borrow someone who can explain to you
just how this plan is retarded - talk to the folks at Electronic
Frontiers Australia, for instance. Under your plan, the result will
be that access to sexual health topics, controversial political
viewpoints and anti-censorship material will end up being blocked,
along with vast chunks of the internet. For instance, there is no way
to block offensive material without blocking access to google, yahoo
and all other search engines. Well done, you've just destroyed the
Internet as a useful tool for everyone.

The way this would work is that the ISPs would outsource this to a
commercial provider of filtering services.

The commercial filter providers are large US firms, nearly all with
strong idealogical and religious viewpoints. Your plan would mean the
entirety of Australia would be subject to their whims.

I am completely appalled at this piece of grandstanding.
