Oops. Philip Ruddock is deeply frustrated with former Family Court chief justice Alastair Nicholson's criticism of the anti-terrorism legislation. On Friday, Ruddock said sarcastically: "The Family Law Judge? . . . Knows all about counter-terrorism, does he?" Well, let's hope that Family Court judges know something of the matter because, under the new legislation, current family court judges can have a role in issuing control and preventive detention orders, and retired judges can issue the latter. At least Ruddock can be relieved that Nicholson has ruled himself out.
