bye bye to LA (again)
Apr. 7th, 2004 11:48 pmWell, I'm back in SF for a day now - talking to OSAF tomorrow, then tomorrow evening back down to LA and then a plane out to Australia. I'll be arriving back early on Saturday morning.
LA really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really blows. And definitely not in a good way. To be fair, I was in downtown LA, which is about as sucky as it gets. All the charm and personality of North Sydney, without even a nice harbour view. On the plus side, I got my ipod replaced (it died - the hard-drive was making noises like a really cheap floppy drive) without any hassle at all from Apple. They were a bit stunned by how broken it was -- calling the other techies over "hey, listen to how fucked this is". I think I set a new record for brokenness - you could hear the drive when it was lying on the bench in the shop.
There was a brief moment where it was possible I'd be staying in LA for another week. This was somewhat crazy - it'd cost quite a bit just for the hotel bills, and it'd be so that I could be there to hook something up that _should_ be there in a few days, and connect it to something that would be installed in racks that don't exist yet (but _should_ in a few days) in a cage that isn't built yet (but _should_ be in a few days) and which doesn't even have power yet (but _should_ -- oh, you get the idea). This was, I'm glad to say, not needed after all. Huzzah!
Anyway, I will try to post again tomorrow while I'm at OSAF and maybe start giving highs and lows for the trip.
Stupidest thing of the trip: Stretched Hummers. I shit you not. B and I saw a couple when we were in a cab in New York. Nuts.
Best Zen Moment: Walking back from the POP very late at night, and seeing a Hummer H2 parked on the side of the road with it's headlights left on. I'd love to see them jumpstart that fucker.
